Cornerstone Building Ltd · NZBN 9429030792333 · Christchurch, New Zealand

Last updated: 29 August 2026

We are a Christchurch building company. This page explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We have written it in plain English rather than legal language.

We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 2020.

What we collect

When you fill in our enquiry form, we collect the details you give us — usually your name, email address, phone number, the property location and a description of the work you want done. You choose what to put in that box, so please do not include anything sensitive that we do not need.

When you call us, we keep a record of the conversation and your contact details so we can follow it up.

When you simply browse the site, our website host and our advertising tools collect technical information automatically. That includes your IP address, the pages you look at, how long you stay, roughly where in the country you are, and what device and browser you used. This is not linked to your name unless you also send us an enquiry.

We do not collect payment or bank details through this website.

Why we collect it

Only for these reasons:

  • To answer your enquiry and give you a price

  • To carry out building work you have engaged us for, and to keep the records the law requires us to keep

  • To understand which of our ads and web pages actually bring in enquiries, so we are not wasting money advertising to the wrong people

We do not sell your information. We do not add you to a marketing list from an enquiry — if we ever start sending anything like that, we will ask you first.

Cookies and tracking

This site uses cookies and similar technology. Some are needed to make the website work. Others tell us how our advertising is performing.

We run two advertising tools:

  • Google Ads conversion tracking — tells us when someone who clicked a Google ad went on to make an enquiry.

  • Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram) — the same thing for our Facebook and Instagram advertising. It also lets us show ads to people who have visited this site before.

Both tools set cookies and send information to Google and to Meta. They tell us about patterns and totals — they do not tell us who you are by name.

If you would rather not be tracked, you can:

  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings

  • Turn on your browser's tracking protection, or use a private window

  • Adjust your ad settings at myadcenter.google.com and in the settings of your Facebook or Instagram account

Blocking these will not stop you using the site or contacting us.

Who else sees your information

We share it only where we have to:

  • Wix, who host this website and run the enquiry form

  • Google and Meta, through the advertising tools above

  • Our own systems for quoting, job management and accounting

  • Subcontractors and suppliers, but only the details needed to do your job — for example a site address so an electrician can get there

  • Anyone we are legally required to tell, such as a council or a regulator

We do not give your information to anyone else for their own marketing.

Some of these companies are based overseas. Wix, Google and Meta store information on servers outside New Zealand, including in the United States and Europe. Where that happens, we rely on those companies' own privacy commitments and the protections required under the Privacy Act.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries that do not turn into work — usually up to two years, in case you come back to us.

  • Job records — at least seven years after the work is finished. We are required to keep building, tax and guarantee records, and we may need them if a question comes up about work we have done.

Keeping it safe

Your information is held in password-protected systems with access limited to the people who need it. We use reputable providers for hosting and job management.

No system is completely secure, and we cannot promise information sent over the internet is risk-free. If something ever goes wrong in a way that could seriously harm you, we will tell you and notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, as the Privacy Act requires.

Seeing and correcting your information

You have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Just get in touch using the details below and tell us what you need. We will respond within 20 working days.

There is no charge for this. We may need to check who you are before we release anything.

Children

This site is aimed at property owners. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
